A Chair for Me

2023 A Chair for Me. My final project at The Krenov School was a walnut chair of my own design.

I spent the six months prior to sketching, sitting, and thinking of chairs. That period of research produced clear parameters for the piece. 

The planar seat and back are designed to promote good posture, comfort and adjustment when sitting. I chose not to sand or scrape any part of the chair. Every surface was finished with a honed edge.

Sculpting and finishing with spokeshaves, knives, and hand planes gave me freedom to create the sweeping lines, facets, and texture of the chair. Parts such as the ends of the arms, top of the back legs, and seat are textured for touch.
